Oregon Reference Summit 2018 – Breakout Session 2b

Misinformation, Fake News and Political Propaganda, presented by Donna L Cohen, MLIS @ Civics for Adults Workshops

We are overwhelmed with messages from politicians, news sources and other media and we must learn to distinguish truth from fiction using critical thinking strategies. The workshop uses real world examples to show how to approach evaluating information for context, clarity and intent. It is only by knowing how to think not only about what is being said, but about what is being left out, that we can truly judge information.

Donna L. Cohen, MEd, MLIS. A teacher and librarian, Donna is focused on presenting non-partisan workshops for adults that fill in gaps in civic and political understanding, encourage more civic/political engagement and hone skills in the critical evaluation of information. These are necessary for our democracy. She is actively involved in various successful civic/political projects.
