Critical librarianship asks us to examine and question the sociopolitical world both inside and out of our libraries. This session will introduce core ideas and give participants exercises to consider how they might practice them at the reference desk and beyond.
Kelly McElroy is the Student Engagement and Community Outreach Librarian at Oregon State University. She co-edited the two-volume Critical Library Pedagogy Handbook(ACRL 2016), winner of the 2017 ACRL Instruction Section Ilene F. Rockman Publication of the Year Award.
Magali Sánchezis the Latinx Services Librarian at the Newberg Public Library in Oregon. She received her BA in Ethnic Studies with an emphasis on Chicanx Studies from Oregon State University. Future University of Arizona Masters in Library Information Science graduate student.
